Two-Day Workshop on Policy Evaluation
[ APPLIED EXPERIMENTAL AND QUASI-EXPERIMENTAL METHODS ]
Organized By
Centre for Public Policy,
Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna
Rigorous impact evaluation is at the heart of evidence-based policymaking. As governments, multilateral agencies, research institutions, and civil-society organisations increasingly demand credible evidence on “what works,” the ability to design and implement robust causal inference strategies has become an indispensable skill for researchers, academicians, and practitioners alike. Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) is pleased to announce the Second Two-Day Causal Inference Workshop on Policy Evaluation, to be held on 19–20 December, 2026 at the CIMP Campus.
The Two-Day Causal Inference Workshop on Policy Evaluation is designed as an intensive, application-oriented training programme on modern causal inference methods for evaluating public policies and interventions. The workshop will combine conceptual foundations with extensive hands-on analysis using Stata and real-world datasets. Participants will move from the fundamentals of policy evaluation to the practical implementation and interpretation of leading quasi-experimental techniques.
Across two days, the programme will cover Randomized Control Trial (RCT), Propensity Score Matching (PSM), Difference-in-Differences (DID), and Lab-in-the-Field approaches. Every major session will include practical data exercises so that participants can translate methodological concepts into replicable empirical analysis.
The workshop will be led by a distinguished panel of resource persons from leading national and international institutions, offering participants a rare opportunity to learn directly from active researchers in applied econometrics and development policy.
Workshop Date: 19-20 December 2026
- Build a strong conceptual foundation in causal inference and counterfactual thinking for policy evaluation.
- Understand when and why experimental and quasi-experimental methods are appropriate for estimating causal effects.
- Develop practical skills in implementing Randomized Control Trial, Propensity Score Matching and Difference-in-difference methods in Stata.
- Introduce Lab-in-the-Field approaches and their potential for generating credible evidence on policy and behavioral interventions.
- Strengthen participants’ ability to diagnose assumptions, assess identification strategies and interpret treatment effects.
- Enable participants to develop a transparent and reproducible workflow for empirical policy evaluation.
The workshop is intended for policy researchers and practitioners who wish to strengthen their empirical skills in causal inference and policy evaluation, including:
- Policy professionals, development practitioners and analysts involved in programme monitoring and evaluation.
- Academic, researchers and research scholars in Economics, Management, Public Policy, Development Studies and related disciplines.
- PhD scholars and advanced postgraduate students working with quantitative or impact-evaluation methods.
- Consultants and professionals seeking hands-on training in modern quasi-experimental methods.
Prerequisite:
Basic familiarity with statistics/econometrics is recommended. Prior exposure to Stata or any statistical software is helpful but not mandatory.
- Opportunity to learn from an International Expert
- Foundations of Policy Evaluation & Causal Inference
- Experimental Method: Orientation on application of Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT)
- Quasi-Experimental Research Methods: Propensity Score Matching, Difference-in-Difference, Lab-in-the-field
- Application with Data: Hands on Training with real world data set on application with software
- Guide in designing Counterfactual Impact Evaluation of Policy Intervention
- A structured understanding of the causal inference framework for policy evaluation.
- Hands-on experience implementing major quasi-experimental techniques in Stata.
- Practical understanding of identification assumptions, diagnostics and interpretation.
- Experience working with empirical datasets and building a reproducible evaluation workflow.
- A methodological foundation for designing stronger research and impact-evaluation studies.
Participants will learn from a distinguished faculty panel with extensive research and teaching experience in applied econometrics, development economics, and policy evaluation:
Dr. Subhasish Dey
University of Warwick, United Kingdom
Prof. Subhasish Dey specialises in development economics and the applied econometrics of public policy, with research experience in evaluating large-scale government programmes using Experimental and quasi-experimental methods.
Dr. Vinay Kumar Jha
O.P. Jindal Global University
Dr. Vinay Jha's research and teaching focus on econometrics, impact evaluation, and behavioural approaches to policy design, with substantial experience in field-based data collection and analysis.
Dr. Debabrata Samanta

Dr. Nigam's research interests span quantitative policy analysis and data-driven decision-making, with extensive experience in Stata-based empirical training for researchers and practitioners.
- The registration fee for the workshop is ₹ 3,000/- (Rupees Three Thousand only) per participant. The fee covers workshop kit, training material, datasets, working lunch, and refreshments for both days, along with a certificate of participation.
- The workshop offers a residential option on the CIMP campus for outstation participants who wish to stay for the duration of the programme.
- Seats are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, subject to the selection criteria of the organising committee. Payment details will be shared upon confirmation of selection.
- Laptop requirement: Participants must bring their own laptop.
- Basic familiarity with statistical/econometric concepts is recommended.
- Interested applicants should submit the duly filled application form along with a short statement of interest and, where applicable, institutional affiliation details, on or before the last date of application.
- Selected candidates will be notified via email with further instructions on registration and payment.
